Apocalypso

From ILB

Image:Example.jpgA ship detected "crashing out of slipstream" inside lunar orbit by Herzog's unit.1 This sublunar orbit is over Earth.

The answer to the September 7, 2004 Axon confirmation question - "What ship am I assigned to?" asked by Melissa, which confirms that the Apocalypso is Melissa's ship.

Captain Greene the Apocalypso's captain seems to have survived the crash, only to be killed on Earth in a suspicious accident involving a bus.2 The Apocalyspo, according to memories from Melissa, had picked up an artifact which, according to Herzog was aboard when it crashed. 3

Greek derivation of the name: which means revelation or literally "from concealment".
The ship's name is most likely from Greek apokalupsis meaning revelation, Apocalypse, from apokaluptein, to uncover : apo-, from or off + kaluptein, to cover.

Also Calypso was a nymph who loved Odysseus and promised him immortality if he would stay with her. After all his men had perished at sea, he alone washed up on her island. She held him captive for 7 years before releasing him. Her name seems to be of a similar derivation. The Latin name Calypso is from the Greek Kalups, from kaluptein, to conceal. Also taken to mean hidden or hider as Calypso hid Odysseus. The game makes several references to the Odyssey.
