"Real-world"
- Dana Awbrey: The web designer of ilovebees.com. Melissa calls her the Assassin and the Killer.
- Margaret Efendi: Dana's aunt and the beekeeper for whom ilovebees.com was created.
- Chloe: Margaret's sister and Dana's mother.
- Farnsworth: Margaret's cat, featured on the ilovebees.com site.

Literal names
- Melissa: Nicknamed "The Operator," or "Op" for short. A shipboard military "smart" AI from the future, now residing on ilovebees.com.
- SPDR: System Peril Distributed Reflex, also nicknamed The Spider (and occasionally the Servant). A piece of software intended to help reactivate Melissa. Now presumed destroyed by Melissa.
- Seeker, known mainly to us as The Pious Flea. An autonomous program whose mission is to "Seek the Truth, Behold the Truth, and Reveal the Truth." The Pious Flea convinced Melissa to destroy the SPDR.
- The literal name for The Sleeping Princess is unknown to us or to her.
Metaphorical names
Note: Metaphorical names were found in the story The Widow's Journey which was pieced together from text snippets hidden in images on ILB.
- The Queen: Refers to Melissa.
- The Widow: Refers to SPDR.
- The Sleeping Princess: The Sleeping Princess is a childlike (but apparently "smart") AI also on the ilovebees.com server. No known literal name, and she does not remember it.
- The Pious Flea: Another program from the future trapped on the ilovebees.com server. Literal name may be "Seeker."
- Manticore: A security process with no known literal name that was destroyed by SPDR.
