Holy Light
From ILB
A sapphire blue1 crystalline Forerunner artifact, discovered in an underground facility on Reach, which the Covenant desperately wanted.
The Holy Light interacts strongly with slipspace producing very odd effects, including time distortion. This has led to speculation that the Artifact is responsible for the connection between events on the Rackspace servers in 2004 and those taking place in 2552.
The crystal emits radiation during slipspace jumps. The Holy Light was blown to bits by a Corporal who wanted to prevent leaving a radiation trail for the Covenant to follow during a slipstream jump but fragments of the crystal were recovered.
Further information on the Holy Light can be found in the Halo novel First Strike, by Eric Nylund.

speculation: Note: the following from the Widow's Journey may refer to a bit of the Holy Light:
"Continuing on her quest, she spied another chip of precious stone, this time a sapphire no bigger than a winged ant, glinting the cobbles of the courtyard before the walls of the Inner Keep."
