In candidate.wav (http://www.ilovebees.com/outbound/candidate.wav), Professor Avi describes a potential female "candidate" that he has located for Herzog:

Avi: She's a scholarship girl from some godforsaken hick town. Although the only way you can tell is her haircut. She's got the clothes all right, she just seems to have a blind spot about the hair.
Herzog: Good, good.
Avi: She looks at the things ordinary people do like a scientist.
Herzog: Like a detective.
Avi: Also persistent as hell.

Rani is from Kentucky, 22 years old, and living in a bad section of Boston, the city where she goes to school. She is incredibly bright and observant. Durga says the brain ninjas would be after Rani, to use her brain as the basis for a smart AI.

Professor Avi is her Cultural Anthropology professor, and recruits her to become a spy. At first refusing to become a spy, she later tells a friend she has agreed to join because she needs a job.

Working for ONI, she traces the fake call that Herzog placedabout Troy. She discovers that Troy was partially evacuated. Standish tries unsuccessfully to have her killed. But Herzog intervenes with the Admiral. She works for Herzog in looking for the artifact.

As of the October 31st waves, Rani is being held after participating in the break-in at Chawla Base. Her quick thinking gave Jersey the time he needed with the artifact. Afterwards, Durga says that she neglected to take care of Rani.

Her boyfriend is Nick, whom she meets at her cousin Sarah-John's wedding. Her parents Tommy and Leah are preparing for the coming Covenant invasion.

Note: we used "Rani" for this character's name as that is what the Sleeping Princess called her. There is some discussion as to whether her name is actually "Ronnie".
