Basic Facts

SPDR is an acronym for System Peril Distributed Reflex. SPDR (or The Widow, as The Sleeping Princess calls her) was a program designed to protect the AI Melissa in times of peril. She was activated in this instance because the crash had badly damaged Melissa to the point where she was completely unintelligible. SPDR herself was not too intelligent, as her only function was to repair her mistress.

She "spoke" using white-on-black text, usually using computer-style commands. SPDR also posted the general warning on the original index page of ilovebees.com (http://www.ilovebees.com). While not understood completely at the time it arrived, SPDR's warning specified the nature of her presence, the countdowns to certain points in the repair process, and, more importantly, the countdown to "Wide awake and physical" on August 24, which started the axon situation and the true beginning to the ARG.

SPDR performed her function well enough, and Melissa did become at least partially functional. However she never completed her repairs, as The Pious Flea distracted her from her duty. While SPDR was distracted, the Pious Flea imitated an updated version of SPDR to Melissa, and Melissa deleted what she considered the older, out-of-date SPDR, removing her from the story and the game.

As of August 10, therefore, SPDR no longer exists.
