Spec: The Truth

Speculation about the nature of "The Truth" by Clamatius.

"The Truth" is simply that ONI knew about the Covenant glassing of Troy before it happened, but didn't reveal it and evacuate the planet to preserve the intelligence source.

If this is the case, it is likely that the Pious Flea is not a Covenant AI at all, but human-made. It was probably introduced into Melissa's systems by someone acting on Herzog's orders - maybe Herzog himself, but possibly also McKaskill or Jason Morelli.

I disagree by Rose. "The Truth" is the Artifact. I have always maintained that idea. Why? The Artifact was found only after the PF infected the Operator. I think that the PF used the ship's long range sensors to find it, after the Apocalypso was already on it's way home.

I also think the PF is Covenant, contained in the decrypted message about the glassing of Troy.

The PF's purpose, as a subtle spy ai, is to control the flow of information and learn as much as possible about the location of the artifact.

I also add here, that I think the murder of James James and the attempted murder or brainwashing of Jan James was due to their having been with McKaskill. McKaskill was one of the people who knew about the artifact. We know, and presumably ONI knows, that McKaskill can't keep secrets. They (read: Standish) couldn't risk having someone with James James abilities knowing about the artifact. I think Standish was behind his murder.
