Sleazy lowlife scum. When Aunt Gladys first shows him to Jan, he is in the process of threatening Paolo for some unspecified offense.¹ It sounds as if Thin may be a loan shark, and Paolo has just missed a payment.

When Jan interferes, Thin challenges her to "moons," a variant of pool, and offers to let Paolo slide if she wins.² To his surprise, Jan does win, quite handily.³ Thin thereupon offers to take her under his wing, but she politely declines the offer.⁴

Thin somehow captures Jan and then shoots James James. Jan and Gilly corner Thin in his basement hideout with Durga's help. When Jan is unable to pull the trigger, Gilly shoots him.⁵
