I am actually still alive
Unfortunately shortly after the FF wiki got really taking off, I haven't had time to follow the axons very much. This game has taken a dramatic turn towards field work and a) it's not something I have time to participate in (in fact, one of the ideas of ARGs that I liked was being able to play along during off times while on the computer) and b) I'm not sure I agree with a game tied to the internet that can be so drastically effected by a couple of people.
I mean, it's weird and I sorta hate to say it - but it's almost like we're losing this game. Dana is pissed off, SP doesn't trust beekeepers, Melissa is taking over every route of communication and we're no closer to understanding her real intent or how to stop her. I was a bit taken aback when we got SP nailed, but getting on Dana's bad side definately seems like a clue from the PMs that the field agents are doing something wrong.
But then again - what did the PMs expect? They made this a pretty linear game with one substantial goal - unlock wav files. Once the axons became the main goal - it's almost like Dana and SP became .... well, kinda expendable. If you want these "future stories" - why not just pony up to the source?
But I am still alive, still interested in the ongoing story and still trying to take notes on general going ons. Will try to pitch in again for character and plot analysis as soon as I get some more time.
Talking about artifacts
artifact.wav seems to confirm/suggest the following:
- Jason Morelli is the Castaway and the GOM.
- Flea infests Melissa, then they find the artifact.
- Morelli describes the artifact as Covenant, but as the Covenant collect Forerunner tech - that could mean either.
- Combined with "harmony" the artifact might be "capable of crippling a solar systems C&C channels"

OK, probably not.
But the revelation that Melissa's ship is indeed the Apocalypso is pretty interesting.
- We can be more sure that Durga is Melissa Can't we? I mean, Durga is the source of all these other files. Unless there's some reason Melissa would be spying on Durga spying on her ... OK - so maybe that's only slightly crazy but it would still seem to indicate their connected at least.
- It really raises the question as to why Durga chose Jersey Morelli. Unless it goes, Melissa slipstreams in ... knows her arrival will be monitored, spies out for spies herself ... finds Jason Morelli and then goes after her son.
- Which naturally doesn't answer -how- Durga transplants herself. Unless SPDR really is the key here, that Flea + SPDR on an alien system = these weird amnesiac AIs.
- How can Jason be the Castaway and be on Earth? Unless we are catching up to him well after his spy service on the Apocalypso. Maybe he high tailed it after learning about Troy? We still don't have a valid timeline on which came first, an artifact or a Flea. We only know the Castaway is on around the time of the artifact. Actually, Castaway being on Troy fits that ... maybe Janet was a love interest? We know Ma Morelli was fooling around. It ALSO fits why there is something about the Apocalypso that Jason can't tell people. OK, maybe it does work (?) (http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=69689#69689)
- The Apocalypso was not mentioned during the Fall of Reach (AFAIK). If Reach had fallen, people would probably be much more panicked. That places the timeline probably during the fall of the inner colonies but before the fall of Reach.
Is Queen really Melissa??
SP's continued mess of communication has led me to ask something:
Maybe Queen is a total fake? The similarities between Jersey's computer and ILB are pretty hard to ignore. The difference is that Jersey's computer is probably powerful enough for things to go "right". We can't assume Flea is not on Jersey's computer, or probably even SP.
So what if the real Melissa is ... Princess. Princess isn't a backup, she's the original. She's the part of Melissa that perhaps Flea could not infest. We know Covenant tech can copy AIs and we know that Flea "moves things around". So what if Flea basically kills of Melissa, but can't completely ... so she goes into the AI equivalent of "cryo". This explains all her cryo/sleeping/dead references. It also explains the voodoo references, because SPDR basically just resurrect this alternate version of herself in her stead - and Flea waits until it can infest that one.
So Queen really is a changeling. She's not really Melissa, she's this other AI SPDR has "repaired" with Melissa's memories and then infected by Flea. Durga is exactly the same. This is why Durga and Queen can't remember who they are - they're Princess and that part is missing. They can look at a mirror, but their reflection has already moved into some coffin somewhere.
Curious Curious
Few observations from the new axons:
- Durga is definately spying on everyone else involved. She just doesn't know why. This makes me feel better, because I don't know either.
- Janissary might not be any kind of special project, it might just be that her dad is a total covert ops badass who doesn't want his real identity out (which if Jan is really his daughter, they might be able to prove). Her ninja skills might be her dad training his little "soldier" from an early age. EDIT: Miracles proves that wrong. Apparently Stupid Cop is a Good Detective. So, Janissary doesn't get sick, drunk, doesn't need much sleep...
- Durga keeps mentioning bees and mirrors. Not only is this making me think she is Melissa, I'm beginning to think she's an infested form of Melissa. Not like our current Queen, but somewhere in between the Melissa who is looking out for McKaskill and the one SPDR rebuilds.
- The only alternative is that this would be normal procedure. Which seems odd - for a shipboard AI.
- So how does she end up on Earth ... twice??
And .... MORE AXONS!
Melissa seems to be moving down the links page. I'm guessing she'll run out of axons before she reaches the end, or we will run out of patience...
At least the axons SP unveiled started to tie together the backstory to at least some of this, all though the Janissary and Bad Date storylines still seem to be swinging in the wind. Things surrounding Troy seem clearly relevant, things around SuperTeen, while neat, are problematic to pull into what we know.
Biggest problem I have now is wanting to combine characters like Durga and Melissa with very little grounds to do so. I can understand Melissa swinging past Troy, getting into trouble, jumping to Earth and getting dumped here. Her swinging past Troy, jumping to Earth, making a quick stop on Jersey's computer and then getting dumped here seems more problematic.
And the Castaway being Jersey's Dad being GOM seems to fit many clues, except for those largely dealing with time and space.
Timeline Notepad
- Melissa was decrypting things around Troy. She may have gotten Flea then.
- We know they reported to the Admiral because we know Troy was evac'd ... so they probably headed to Reach.
- They find an artifact adrift.
- Radio Signal Corp intercepts Melissa and sneaks on operative, the Castaway, on board.
- Castawy sneaks off the Apocalypso and ends back on Earth to warn his ONI section about the artifact.
- Troy is attacked.
- Melissa blocks out her core and is presumed dead. SPDR takes over and rebuilds her. This new version is more susceptible to the Flea.
- ...
- The Apocalypso jumps to Earth using the artifact.
- The Castaway detects the Apocalypso's return.
- Flea copies version of Melissa, Durga, to spy on Earth via Jersey's computer.
- Durga is discovered and the Apocalypso attacked.
- Apocalypso jumps again, this time the artifact bends time.
- Princess (Melissa), Flea and SPDR wash ashore on ILB.
- SPDR once again rebuilds a nameless AI, Queen.
- Queen continues her "mission" to report her data.
